Christian Mingle Dating Site

Since the new year, every time I turn on my TV I have been bombarded by ads for Christian Mingle. I remember this happened last year around the holidays. In fact, the TV ads last year for Christian Mingle is what prompted me to join at that time. I paid for 3 months of the service so I could have access to the chat rooms, the forums and to the mail system.

Wait, Tula… you mean Christian Mingle isn’t free like the commercial says?

Nope, it sure isn’t. Not if you want the site to be effective at least. Even still, there’s no guarantee in having a good Christian dating experience there, either.

But this isn’t a knock on Christian Mingle. This is valid for all dating sites. You just don’t know who’s on the other end of your communications. Just because YOU may be a good person, or a Christian, doesn’t mean the person on the other end is either one of these. Discernment on Christian Mingle as well as other Christian dating sites is key.

That’s part of what God calls us to do, isn’t it? God certainly calls on us to love everyone, but He also calls for us to use discernment in our relations with others. Unfortunately, not everyone out there has our best interest at heart. So we must have our wits about us, even as Christians. Proverbs 2:1-8 warns us of the importance of knowledge and discernment:

1 My son, if you receive my words,
And treasure my commands within you,
2 So that you incline your ear to wisdom,
And apply your heart to understanding;
3 Yes, if you cry out for discernment,
And lift up your voice for understanding,
4 If you seek her as silver,
And search for her as for hidden treasures;
5 Then you will understand the fear of the LORD,
And find the knowledge of God.
6 For the LORD gives wisdom;
From His mouth come knowledge and understanding;
7 He stores up sound wisdom for the upright;
He is a shield to those who walk uprightly;
8 He guards the paths of justice,
And preserves the way of His saints.

In order to make the Christian Mingle site an effective means for Christian dating, you would be better off to upgrade to the paid service so that you can safely communicate with others directly through the site and not have to share your personal email or other personal details until you feel comfortable. Beware of anyone who wants to get you off the site quickly and into email or on the phone. I encountered many scammers while I was on that site. Christian Mingle in no way screens it’s users to see if they are truly Christian. So it’s up to YOU to do that screening process.

Here’s an example. While I was on Christian Mingle, I was contacted by a man. I wasn’t even interested in him as for dating goes, but we were chatting about my dog. After a few days of Christian Mingle mails back and forth, he insisted that God told him to send me something and asked for my full name and address. He swore that God told him in a dream to send me a DVD. I immediately chuckled and wondered if I had SUCKER written on my forehead and then stopped communicating with him. At that point he responded by sending me a Christian Mingle mail with a link to a porn site (no.. I’m not kidding.. a friend checked out the link for me). I had to write Christian Mingle and report this guy and then subsequently blocked him.

So, whether you are using Christian Mingle or another christian dating site, it is absolutely imperative to take your time on these sites and using your initial communication via the site to keep yourself safe. Just because Christian Mingle is labeled as a Christian site doesn’t mean everyone on there is truly Christian. Be careful, be safe and be wise.

Blessings,
Tula

    fantastic post Tula. It just goes to show you that the key is to put your trust in God and make NO decisions without consulting him first. Proverbs 3:5 and 6 says it best. I also like what A Course In Miracles teaches on this in chapter 30, The New Beginning under Rules for Decision. I like what you said in regards to ANY relations, personal, business or otherwise.
